Yes, bombogenesis is real and it's affecting Arkansas

It sounds like something in a sci-fi movie. But bombogenesis is real.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Yes, it is real!

It is a term used to describe a deepening or strengthening low. This means the center low pressure drops at least twenty four millibars in 24 hours. This is associated with high winds! That is why it is so windy today.

The location of the low makes it ideal to see not only snow across the Front Range (Colorado and Wyoming) but high winds causing blizzard conditions.

Another interesting note is that the center pressure is dropping to similar values found in a Category 2 hurricane.

The associated cold front with this low is where we are focusing for Arkansas. The ingredients are there for severe storms. Moisture is there thanks to our persistent south wind. Instability is there as our temperatures continue to climb. The lifting mechanism or spark will be the approaching cold front.

The upper-level low (you know the one associated with the strengthening low in the plains) will add the extra instability. This is why we are watching closely.
