INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, Ark. — Arkansas State Troopers and Independence County Sheriff’s Deputies recovered the body of Loyd Cockrell this morning near the Cord community, according to a police spokesperson.
Preliminarily reports suggest that Cockrell, 76, of Jonesboro, drowned sometime late Friday, Feb. 22 as he drove along a flooded stretch of Arkansas Highway 37.
Troopers suspect Cockrell was driving to Batesville at the time.
