MCCRORY, Ark. — MCCRORY, Ark. — A northeast Arkansas community is using heavy machinery to stave off flooding from homes and the area's church
Savanna Immel, of McCrory, sent photos of backhoes building barriers to hold off flood waters in the area. Sandbags were laid out to help create barriers.
Pumpkin Bend Community Church is also vulnerable to the floodwater.
“Just come a large rain, a three-inch rain this morning and it started building up and backing into the yard and flooded us out,” church member Johnny Browning told THV11.
Browning said Saturday’s rain only added to already present issues created from rain earlier this month.
He said the efforts of volunteers are paying off in the community of about 100 people, as water has not entered homes or the church.
Highway 269 between McCrory and Pumpkin Bend is closed due to high water covering the road.
