Jacksonville K-9 gets free bullet-resistant vest from Mass. nonprofit

JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - Spartan is a K-9 officer with the Jacksonville Police Department who is getting a special gift from a Massachusetts nonprofit. A new vest to protect him in the line of duty.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provides bullet- and stab-protective vests and other assistance to service dogs of law enforcement and related agencies in the U.S., according to a news release from Jacksonville police.

Spartan joined the force in December of last year and is partnered with Officer Jordan Cline.

The vest will be embroidered with "In memory of K9 Benga, Mountain Home Police, Arkansas."

Each protective vest for a Law Enforcement K-9 is $950. Each vest has a retail value of up to $2,283.00 and carries a five-year warranty.
