BAUXITE, Ark. (KTHV) - The reading tour took Craig O'Neill Bauxite and Pine Haven Elementary. The whole purpose, of course, was to spread the joy of reading to kids, but teachers enjoy it too.
The second and third graders have reading celebrations every nine weeks. They get points for reading and in fact, Craig helped them score points because they also get points when they're read to.
The goal is 50 by 20. 50 percent of Arkansas third graders at reading level by 2020. Pine Haven is perhaps the fastest growing school on the tour. That's the old school from the early 80's.
There are seven kindergarten classes at the new school. The only problem with the tour is it's one-sided. Craig is doing all the reading. Well, wait until Wednesday, May 9, you see what happens on THV11.
