LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Symone Thomas is a Mississippi native, graduating from Natchez High School in 2017.  She has a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University.

Symone’s passion for meteorology started as a young child when she noticed that the local chief meteorologist was a woman. Seeing a woman in a male-dominated role inspired her to pursue the field as well. Her passion was further enhanced as she followed Hurricane Katrina and its impacts across her home state.

She recognized that a meteorologist’s duty is to serve the local community just as much as it is to study the science behind weather phenomena.

Her dedication to service became evident during her time at MSU. Symone was heavily involved with her campus community— eventually earning multiple awards and distinctions for her community service and engagement. She was even recognized by President Mark Keenum for accumulating over 250 service hours during her matriculation.

After graduating from MSU, Symone spent two years as a meteorologist at FOX West Texas in San Angelo, Texas. During her time in Texas, she covered everything from severe weather to winter weather, fire weather and drought.

Symone is excited to serve and learn more about the central Arkansas community. You can watch her every weekend on THV11.

You can follow Symone on her Facebook page for the latest in Arkansas weather.
