HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — McDonald's is striking its McCafé line of bakery items from restaurant menus nationwide, causing many breakfast customers to have a bad morning. As first reported by TODAY.com, McDonald's USA representatives confirmed they would be phasing out the McCafé baked goods "including the Apple Fritter, Blueberry Muffin and Cinnamon Roll."

A report from food news site Daily Meal indicates the change could take place as early as July 15, though a full removal from all the chain's locations could take throughout the summer.

The bakery items were available all day, and began appearing on the McCafé menu in late 2020. McDonald's said the decision to remove the baked goods came because "We're always listening to our fans and adjusting our menu based on what they crave."

It's the most recent shakeup of the fast food chain's morning menu that includes the bold and often-requested All-Day Breakfast menu, which was rolled out in 2015 but discontinued in the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Back in 1999, the chain began offering bagel sandwiches with options including sausage, bacon, ham, steak patty, and Spanish omelet. They enjoyed a nationwide offering for several years before being scaled back in 2022. A steak, egg and cheese bagel sandwich returned to the Miami area as a "soft product launch" in May of this year.

As pointed out by the Tasting Table, some classic baked items including chocolate chip cookies and apple pies will remain staples of the menu for the foreseeable future.

McDonald's is also in the process of tweaking its burger recipe, a change which is also being rolled out gradually.
