Indicted Arkansas sheriff once again arrested, facing new charges | What to know

Hot Spring County Sheriff Derek Scott Finkbeiner is now facing state charges after being named as a defendant in a sealed court document.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — According to court documents, Hot Spring County Sheriff Derek Scott Finkbeiner is now facing new charges after being named as a defendant in a since sealed court document.

The documents state that Sheriff Finkbeiner is now facing charges of sexual solicitation and unauthorized access to ACIS, the state's crime database — he's accused of passing along information with the intent to allegedly further a crime.

The investigation was completed by Arkansas State Police and the case was ordered to be sealed by Judge Eddy Easley.

Records show that Sheriff Finkbeiner was initially arrested on Wednesday, but was later released on a recognizance bond.

Sheriff Finkbeiner is reportedly due back in court on May 14 in Malvern.

These charges come after the sheriff previously appeared in court on Nov. 3. 2023 after being arrested by the FBI a day prior — the FBI said he interfered with an active drug investigation.

At the time, Sheriff Finkbeiner was being charged in a criminal complaint with a single count of obstruction of justice — he is facing a maximum penalty of twenty years in prison if convicted.

Finkbeiner has also been accused of coercing an informant to do meth as well as perform sexual acts on him, according to an affidavit.

That document alleges that Finkbeiner misled federal investigators and warned a drug dealer, which then led to him being charged with obstruction of justice. Finkbeiner is also accused of using meth while in uniform, according to the affidavit.

The sheriff was released after the hearing on a $5,000 bond with certain stipulations such as not leaving that area of the state, not having a gun, and not being able to interact with witnesses.
