Arkansas surpasses $1B in total medical marijuana sales

Following a record-breaking year, Arkansas' medical marijuana industry has officially passed the $1B mark in total sales.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Arkansas has officially surpassed the $1B mark for medical marijuana sales, according to the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration.

For 2023 the state saw purchases of medical marijuana that totaled $283 million for the year.

This largest year of sales since the medical marijuana industry opened in Arkansas in 2019. This record eclipsed the previous one set just last year, when the state saw $276 million in sales in 2022.

Following this record-breaking year, the state's medical marijuana industry has officially passed the $1B mark in total sales.

“In late 2023, Arkansas’ medical marijuana industry surpassed $1 billion in total sales since the first dispensary opened for business,” said Scott Hardin, spokesperson for the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration.

This comes as the industry has continued to see growth in its sales each year.

“From $31 million in sales in 2019 to $283 million in 2023, the industry has grown each year. The $25.6 million spent in December was the largest monthly amount in 2023.” Hardin said.

According to the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration, Suite 443 in Hot Springs led dispensaries this year with over 6,200 pounds sold. The Natural Relief Dispensary in Sherwood sold the second most, with over 5,600 pounds being purchased.

Most recently, the Arkansas Department of Health reported that there are 97,374 active patient cards in the state.
