Arkansas State Police investigate shooting in Dermott that killed 1 man

A 36-year-old Monticello man is dead after a shooting in the 100 block of South Knox Street late Thursday night.

DERMOTT, Ark. — Arkansas State Police is investigating a shooting that killed a 36-year-old Monticello man in the 100 block of South Knox Street in Dermott.

The Dermott Police Department (DPD) said they were called to the home around 10:53 p.m. on Thursday and found the victim, Michael Carter, dead in the front doorway with a gunshot wound "sustained during an altercation."

Carter was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab, where the manner and cause of death will be determined.

49-year-old Zousah Jackson of California turned himself in and was charged with second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm.
