GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - It was announced on Friday that the new Garland County Detention Center is fully operational.

The Detention Center located at 525 Ouachita Ave. in Hot Springs was closed for booking and intake processing as of midnight Monday, June 15. At the time, the new Detention Center located at 3564 Albert Pike Road had begun accepting new arrestees. According to officials, nearly 200 inmates were relocated to the new facility without a single notable incident. Transports occurred in staggered increments around-the-clock for five days.

The new facility processed 67 arrests and 49 inmates were released from custody, while detention staff operated both detention centers simultaneously.

Inmate visitation will begin on Thursday, June 25 at noon. Visitation will be available from Thursday through Sunday, starting at noon and lasting until 8 p.m. Visits are 45 minutes including 15 minute check-in periods between visits. Inmates are permitted to have one visit on a weekday and one on a weekend (2 per week). At this time, there is no requirement for pre-scheduling visits.
