LIHEAP applications open in Arkansas | Here's how to apply

Low-income families who are struggling to pay their electric bills can apply online.

ARKANSAS, USA — Low-Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) applications will reopen on Jan. 8. This program helps low-income families apply for help in covering the costs of their energy bills. 

According to Arkansas Energy & Environment, LIHEAP is managed by 15 community-based organizations in the state, serving all 75 counties. 

What is required?

  • Completed application
  • Electric or gas bill
  • Photo ID
  • Social Security cards and dates of birth of all household members
  • Proof of income for the previous month for all household members such as:
    • paycheck stubs
    • printout from employer 
    • social security
    • unemployment
    • child support
    • VA
    • housing allowance 
    • unemployment benefits
  • If you have not had a job within the last two months, a statement from your employer of your last day of employment is required. 
  • If you have no income, proof "of how the household's monthly expenses are being met" is required along with the following forms: 
    • Zero income form
    • Collateral statement
    • Contribution statement
    • Odd job income form
