LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Calling 9-1-1 is usually all that's needed to save a life but sometimes you need to perform CPR while you wait for an ambulance.
Becky Iverson had to do that such thing. The 9-1-1 operator walked her through the steps of CPR until paramedics arrived. Doctors says her husband might not have lived if Becky had waited for the EMT to come.
The Family & Friends CPR course teaches a multitude of CPR related skills. They range from adults to children based CPR as well as what to do in the event someone is choking. Skills are taught in a group environment that uses a "practice while watching" technique.
MEMS suggests the group would be useful for students, grandparents, new parents and babysitters but all are allowed to come to the classes.
One tip that is good to remember is if you see an adult collapse is to push in the center of the chest to the beat of "Stayin' Alive" by The Bee Gees.
