Warming centers now open across central Arkansas

As temperatures continue to drop and winter weather comes to Arkansas, warming centers across the Natural State are opening up just in time to help.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — As temperatures continue to drop and winter weather threatens to impact Arkansas, warming centers across the Natural State have opened up just in time to help.

If you're looking for a safe, comfortable space to seek shelter from the winter weather, check out the list of locations with resources available in central Arkansas:

Little Rock

  • Little Rock Compassion Center
    • Located at 3618 W Roosevelt Rd. Open 24 hours.
  • Dunbar Community Center
    • Located at 1001 W. 16th St. Opens on Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. and will remain open as needed
  • East Little Rock Community Center 
    • Located at 2500 E. 6th St. from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. 
  • Southwest West Community Center
    • Located at 6401 Baseline Road from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. 
  • Stephens Community Center
    • Located at 3720 W. 18th St. from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. 
  • West Central Community Center
    • Located at 4521 John Barrow Road from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Benton

  • Saline County Warming Center
    • Located at Northside Church of Christ at 917 N. East St. next to Saline Memorial Hospital. Opens Sunday, Jan. 14 at 5:00 p.m.

North Little Rock

  • NLR Community Center
    • Located at 2700 North Willow Street. Open Friday, January 12, 4:00 p.m. – Saturday, January 13, 7:00 a.m. & Saturday, January 13, 4:00 p.m. – Wednesday, January 17, 7:00 a.m. The center will be closed Saturday, January 13 during the day from 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Contact at (501)791-8541.

Conway

  • Don Owen Sports Center
    • Located at 10 Lower Ridge Road. Open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • McGee Center
    • Located at 10 Lower Ridge Road. Open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Conway Emergency Shelter
    • Located at 1116 Gum Street. Open 24 hours every day.

Searcy

  • The Carmichael Center
    • Located at 801 S Elm St. It will remain open around the clock through the winter storm.
  • Searcy First Methodist Church

    • Located at 304 N Main St. Those staying are required to go through a background check. Please Call Mission Machine at (501) 230-9356 to go through the background check process.

Fort Smith

  • Salvation Army 
    • Located at 504 North D Street. Open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. & Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Contact at (479) 783-6145.
  • Next Step Homeless Services
    • Located at 123 North 6th Street. Open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Contact at (479) 782-5433.
  • Riverview Hope Campus 
    • Located at 301 South E Street. Open every day from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Contact at (479) 668-4764. Hope Campus is also operating as an emergency overnight shelter. 

Hot Springs

  • First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs
    • Located at 1100 Central Ave. Open Friday, January 12 through Wednesday, January 17. Open nightly at 4:00 p.m., with extended daytime hours in the case of inclement weather.
