What are the rules for bullfrog season in Arkansas?

Most Arkansas hunters know the rules for hunting deer and ducks, but what about bullfrogs? The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission explained how it works.

GRADY, Ark. — Here in Arkansas, we take pride in our hunting. Deer and duck are known to all, but did you know we have a bullfrog season?

According to Trey Reid with Arkansas Game and Fish, the limit is 18 frogs per day— or more accurately, 18 per night.

“You’re using a light to stun the frogs and sneak up on them in the boat. You essentially gig them from a prong or a pole. Some people just grab them with their bare hands. Reach up and just throw them in a sack and they are delicious. Good-eating bullfrogs,” He explained. “A lot of people are familiar with frog legs on a seafood buffet or something like that but you can go out and get your own.”

If you and your friends decide to go, remember there aren't just frogs in and around the water.

“You will definitely see some snakes out there. You know it’s funny, the eyes of the snakes and the spiders glow and then you realize that’s something you don’t want to grab a hold of or stick with your gig. You know keep an eye out but don’t panic. Most of the snakes are usually harmless water snakes," Reid added.

Bullfrog season just got underway and runs through the end of the year.
