Searcy to begin work on city master plan after approval of two bond measures

The city will move forward with the #MySearcy Master Plan after citizens voted to approve two bond measures regarding it on Super Tuesday.

SEARCY, Ark. — The City of Searcy announced they will move forward with the #MySearcy Master Plan after citizens voted to approve two bond measures regarding it on Super Tuesday.

The measures received overwhelming support from the community and aim to introduce transformative projects that will enhance the quality of life for all residents in the area.

"This vote represents a pivotal moment for Searcy's future,” stated Mayor Mat Faulkner. “It underscores our community's shared vision and commitment to building a vibrant, inclusive, and thriving city for generations to come.”

The approved bond measures will finance the following projects:

  • Community Center:
    • Construction of sports courts, an indoor walking trail, multi-use community rooms, and outdoor trails. The facility will be located on Main Street and serve as a hub for recreational and social activities.
  • Outdoor Water Park:
    • Develop an Outdoor Water Park adjacent to the existing Swim Center with features like zero-entry pools, tower slides, and a lazy river.
  • Sports Complex Updates:
    • Construction of additional fields, improvements to existing facilities, and upgrades to address drainage issues, meet the needs of local sports teams, and position the City to better host tournaments.
  • Running/Biking Trails:
    • A comprehensive trail network will be established, connecting Riverside Park and the Community Center with paved trails.
  • Riverside Park:
    • Installing new mountain bike trails, a kids' pump track, enhanced park entrances, lighting, and safety features.
  • Berryhill Park:
    • Construction of a destination playground, splash pad, and food truck court.

The estimated project cost totals $93 million and represents a significant investment in Searcy's future growth.

"The approval of these measures signifies a collective investment in our city's future," City Planner Richard Stafford said. "Through extensive community engagement and input, we've identified key priorities that align with the aspirations and needs of our residents."

Each project was selected through a comprehensive two-year community engagement process that allowed residents to make their voices heard and decide what they wanted to see in Searcy.
