NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — You might see a lot of purple in Conway this weekend, but this time not necessarily for the UCA bears, but for the Central Arkansas Christian Mustangs.
CAC has three teams competing at the state championship this weekend, with boys and girls soccer, along with baseball hoping to win a state title.
2019 was the last time all teams made it.
The Mustangs baseball team will be the first to kick things off for CAC. They'll take on Gosnell at 10 a.m. on Saturday for the Class 3A baseball title. The Mustangs baseball team will hope to win their first state title on the diamond since 2009.
"We came close in 2019 and have never quite been able to get over the hump," said Hayden Cruce, CAC baseball coach and athletic director. "They're really excited to have this opportunity that they've worked really hard for."
Then, at 2 p.m. that day, the Mustangs boys soccer team will play Green Forest, and the girls will play the defending state champions, Episcopal Collegiate. Both CAC teams will hope to do what they did in 2019 and that's sweep the titles.
"I'm proud of the guys this season because we are without any seniors," CAC boys soccer coach Billy Sullivan said. "We've had some of our underclassmen step up early and grow up during the process."
CAC outfielder and University of Memphis baseball commit Webb Watson was also on the Mustangs basketball team that won the state title this hoops season. Watson hopes to close out his senior year the right way—with another ring.
"It's so crazy that I've gone four whole years without making a state championship game," Watson said. "Now, in my last semester, I make two. It's cool to get to succeed together and watch each other be successful."
There has been much excitement around the CAC community this week, leading to the championship games.
"It's such an honor to represent our school at a state tournament," CAC boys soccer player Rhett Rabb said. "I'm so happy that we've got other people coming to join us, and it's gonna be such a fun day."
The baseball game will be on Arkansas PBS, while the soccer games will be streamed live on the NFHS Network.
