Mt. Vernon-Enola defeats Mansfield to win Class 2A state championship

The Lady Warhawks finish the season 43-0 and are back-to-back Class 2A state champions. Dessie McCarty led the way with 20 points and 16 rebounds.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — In the battle of two unbeaten teams, Mt. Vernon-Enola came out victorious, beating Mansfield 50-44 to win the Class 2A state title for the second consecutive year.

The Lady Warhawks, who finished the season a perfect 43-0, were led by Dessie McCarty's 20 points, 16 rebounds and six assists.

Mt. Vernon-Enola was in front for most of the game, but things got interesting in the fourth quarter when Mansfield came back to tie things up. However, a few moments later, McCarty drilled a three-pointer, and a basket by Alyssa Gilbert gave the Lady Warhawks a 42-40 lead, which they wouldn't relinquish.
