Arkansas drivers paying lowest gas prices of the year, according to AAA

Northwest Arkansas drivers are paying the least in the state at $2.64 per gallon.

JOHNSON, Ark — Drivers across the state are paying the lowest gas price averages of year, according to the AAA Arkansas Weekend Gas Watch.

AAA says that the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is $2.78, four cents less compared to this day last week and 11 cents less per compared to this day last year.

AAA found that Pine Bluff drivers are paying the most in the state at an average of $2.90 while drivers in the Northwest Arkansas metro, including Fayetteville, Springdale, and Rogers, are paying the least in the state at $2.64 per gallon.

The national average price of gas is $3.20 per gallon, which is 15 cents less than the price this time last year, AAA said. Additionally, Arkansas drivers are paying the sixth lowest gas price average in the county.

"Arkansas drivers are experiencing the lowest statewide gas price average of the year. Gas prices have continued their steady decline for nearly three months, correlating with a drop in crude oil prices over the same period. Crude oil, the main ingredient in gasoline, is down in price nearly $20 per barrel since September," a release from AAA said.

"Arkansas’s gas price average is at the lowest point of the year," Nick Chabarria, a AAA spokesperson, said. "Lower crude oil prices are anticipated to translate into continued relief for consumers at the gas pump this December.”
