Traffic backed up for miles as people leave eclipse events in Russellville

Following the total solar eclipse, traffic along I-40 from the areas near Russellville heading toward Clarksville has been backed up and moving slowly.

ARKANSAS, USA — Update: Traffic now appears to be moving as normal.

Following the total solar eclipse that happened in Russellville from about noon until a little past 3:00 p.m., traffic along Interstate 40 from the areas near Russellville heading toward Clarksville, Arkansas has been moving at a very slow pace.

According to reports from our crews out in the field, there were thousands of people in attendance at events in Russellville with people from at least 48 states across the country.

Now as people are leaving and headed west, that has caused a huge traffic back up.

Though there is heavy traffic spanning nearly 30 miles from Russellville to Clarksville, no accidents have been reported.
