JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - More events celebrating Black History Month at Arkansas State University continue next week.
Monday, The Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission and Arkansas Department of Human Services host "Nonviolence Youth Summit XVI: Remember Hoxie." The keynote speaker is Ethel Tompkins, the first African-American to graduate from Hoxie Public Schools.
On Tuesday, the workshop "Overcoming Barriers: How to Use Slave Narratives and Ellis Island Records" will be presented. Also Tuesday, a presentation is planned by the Black Press in Arkansas and the Power of the Printed Word in African-American-Owned Newspapers.
Wednesday, a presentation, "On Jordan's Stormy Banks: The Southern Tenant Farmers Union and the 1939 Roadside Demonstration in Southeast Missouri" will take place.
On Feb. 29, the Black History Month Keynote Address - "All Eyes On Me" - will be presented.
