Man arrested after stealing copper from Hot Springs non-profit

An Arkansas man has been arrested after breaking and entering and stealing over $4,000 in copper and other items.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — An Arkansas man has been arrested after breaking and entering and stealing over $4,000 in property from Our Promise House, a non-profit.

The man was named as Gary Blake Short and was identified due to a dragon tattoo on his right arm that matched security footage.

According to records, Short took several rolls of wire from the non-profit, along with staples, wire nuts, and other miscellaneous items.

The arrest comes after Our Promise sought help months after the break-ins, which forced the non-profit to stop construction.

Our Promise was building a house in Hot Springs for cancer patients to stay at while they are getting treatment.

That site was targeted by thieves seven times over several months.

The targeted thefts forced the project to stop after the property was stripped of copper multiple times. At the time, the project manager said they had replaced the building's wiring twice.

That resulted in $60,000 - 70,000 in damages.

Construction was expected to be done by August, but now they hope it will be finished by October.

To help prevent any more destruction they've hired private security to watch over the construction site.
