Little Rock police identify homicide victim found behind Pic-Pac Liquor

Police have identified the gunshot victim found behind a Little Rock liquor store to be 21-year-old John Word.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — On Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 3:15 p.m., officers at the 12th Street Station were alerted of a shooting victim, later identified as 21-year-old John Word, being brought to the station. 

When the car did not arrive, they began surveying the area for a white Nissan, the description given of the car.

Not long after, officers found the Nissan parked behind Pic-Pac Liquor on West 12th Street, where they found Word suffering from gunshot wounds in the passenger side of the car. First responders were called.

Word was pronounced dead at the scene.

Upon investigating, detectives determined the incident took place in the parking lot of O'Reilly Auto Parts on Asher Ave. after an alleged theft attempt by the victim.

The suspect claims he shot and killed Word in self-defense. 

The case is still under investigation.
