Arkansas's upset bid falls short in loss to No. 11 Alabama

Arkansas's late rally wasn't enough to upset Alabama. The Razorbacks have now lost five consecutive games, the longest losing streak of the Sam Pittman era.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe threw for 238 yards and scored three total touchdowns as the No. 11 Crimson Tide handed Arkansas its fifth consecutive loss with a 24-21 victory on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Alabama (6-1, 4-0 SEC) holds firm atop the SEC West after securing its fifth straight win.

The Razorbacks (2-5, 0-4 SEC) opened the game with a pair of field goals to take a 6-0 lead with 2:05 left in the first quarter.

Arkansas recorded 250 yards of total offense, with redshirt senior quarterback KJ Jefferson completing 14-of-24 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns.

Junior running back AJ Green posted a team-high 44 rushing yards on six carries. At the same time, redshirt senior wide receiver Andrew Armstrong led all Razorback pass catchers with 48 yards on four catches.

The Hogs' offense fell flat after turning to the run game with an early lead, and the Crimson Tide took advantage of the extra possessions with 58 seconds left in the second quarter.

Milroe, who leads the SEC and ranks in the top 10 nationally in yards per completion, connected with sophomore wide receiver Kobe Prentice on 3rd and 15 for a 79-yard touchdown to put Alabama ahead 7-6.

Five minutes later, the redshirt sophomore quarterback punched in a one-yard rushing score and then found sophomore tight end Amari Niblack from 29 yards out to extend the Crimson Tide's lead to 21-6 at halftime.

Trailing by 18 points in the second half, Arkansas started to put things together.

Jefferson tossed a five-yard touchdown to redshirt freshman wide receiver Isaiah Satenga at the end of the third quarter, then hit sophomore running back Rashod Dubinion for a 14-yard score, cutting Alabama's lead to 24-21 with 10:59 remaining in the game.

Following a Razorback punt, Alabama got the ball back with 5:19 on the clock and ran it out to squash the Hogs' comeback bid.

Arkansas's defense gave up 415 yards and secured five sacks in the loss, with junior defensive lineman Landon Jackson leading the way with 11 total stops, seven solo tackles and 3.5 sacks.

The Hogs return home for the first time in 35 days to battle Mississippi State on Oct. 21.
