Little Rock mother pleads for son's justice after homicide

Dejon Nelms was shot and killed at the end of last year. Now, his mom is asking for any information that could lead to an arrest.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Dejon Nelms was the youngest of five kids and was shot and killed in December, weeks after turning 21.

"Dejon was hilarious," Dejon's mother Unitie Nelms said. "Dejon was the life of the party. He was our baby."

Unitie Nelms remembers him as a momma's boy who loved deeply.

Dejon Nelms and Modesti Allimon were on West 14th Street in Little Rock around 8:00 p.m. on Dec. 20 when they were shot and killed.

There are still no suspects or persons of interest named in the murders.

"In my opinion, I think it was someone that knew them because why would they do that, especially to do that to Modesti," Unitie Nelms said. "The way they did them, they did it to the point that no one could identify them."

Unitie Nelms is making sure her son's name doesn't become another number, as her family started a nonprofit, Deijon's Gift to Forgiveness, in her son's honor to help others who are going through this kind of grief.

"For God to forgive me and anybody I love, I must have forgiveness," Unitie Nelms said. "But please, the only way you will get forgiveness is by doing the right thing by giving our family some closure."

We contacted the Little Rock Police Department about any updates in this case and were told they haven't released any new details.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at (501) 371-4829.
