Several people displaced after Maumelle apartment complex fire

Several tenants have been displaced after a morning fire damaged the Millwood apartments just before the Thanksgiving holiday.

MAUMELLE, Arkansas — Several people are without a home after a fire at an apartment in Maumelle.

This is the second time this year that a fire has broken out at the Millwood Apartments.

Peggy Scarborough lives there and was at home when maintenance was doing their monthly checkups.

"They were coming out of my neighbor's and her smoke detectors were going off," said Scarborough.

At around 11:00 a.m., it was discovered that a fire had broken out on the top floor of the building.

"Our first arriving firefighters found heavy smoke and a bit of fire when they arrived," said Maumelle Fire Division Chief, Michael Cossey.

The video given to us by Chief Cossey showed the firefighters battling the flames.

There were no injuries to anyone living at the apartment or to the firefighters but there was, however, a dog rescued.

Multiple fire departments responded to the scene, including Oak Grove, North Little Rock, and Maumelle.

The impacted building holds 16 units. and four of those were damaged by the fire.

Property managers have been actively working to get those displaced by the fire into vacant units. Peggy will stay with her family during the holidays.

"I'm fine. I'm just thankful and blessed," said Scarborough.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause of this fire.

As for the fire earlier this year, the Maumelle Fire Department said it started from material in the dryer vent.
