Arkansas apartment complex plagued with sewage issues, tenant says

One North Little Rock resident says her apartment complex is flushed with problems, leaving her bathroom unusable as waste spills on walkways.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — One woman is asking for help after what she referred to as continued sewage issues at a North Little Rock apartment complex.

She reached out to us last week and explained how the issues have left her bathroom unusable— spilling waste on walkways.

At the Timbers at Lakewood Apartments in North Little Rock tenant Jerica said that she's been dealing with sewage problems for weeks and some of it is still there even after this week's rain.

"Right here was just flooded with that comes out of sewage that came out of there. It was piled up all over here," she described.

She is now pushing for a solution and has reached out to management.

"I have the first time it started. They said that they were going to send somebody down," Jerica said. "They did something, it stopped but then it started rushing up again. I've emailed them pictures of video. I've gotten nothing back."

We visited the leasing office and reached out to multiple contacts within the management company but they did not share an official response.

Now the renter advocacy group Arkansas Community Organization is hoping to bring more attention to the issue.

"The goal is to get the problem fixed immediately and to also get legislation passed," he said, "It's bad in North Little Rock, right? This is a national situation as well. So the people really don't have any. They don't have a voice and we try to be a voice," said Kevin Hollowayel, a North Little Rock representative.

Meanwhile, Jerica said she has been saving up, to move out.

"I kind of just don't want to stay here anymore at this point," Jerica said, "I'm paying my rent but I'm still not seeing anything done about it."
