Saline County Office of Emergency Management responds to chemical spill off I-30 in Benton

On Sunday, the Saline County Office of Emergency Management and the Benton Fire Department were dispatched to the scene of a chemical spill off I-30 in Benton.

SALINE COUNTY, Ark. — At around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, both the Saline County Office of Emergency Management and the Benton Fire Department were dispatched to the Goodyear Tire near the Pilot Travel Center in Benton.

Once they arrived they found that there was sodium hydroxide being carried in containers that were aboard a cargo truck. According to the Saline County OEM, there was a chemical spill and so the Little Rock Fire Department Hazmat team was also dispatched to the scene.

No injuries were reported in this incident and first responders at the scene were able to contain the chemicals.

Both the Saline County OEM and Benton Fire Department are waiting for the arrival of the remediation team, and once they arrive the situation will be turned over to them. 

They will now conduct the hazmat site cleanup.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing and we will update with more information as soon as it becomes available.
