Police arrest capital murder suspect in Sherwood

The Sherwood Police Department says they arrested a man wanted for capital murder for a homicide that happened on Feb. 1.

SHERWOOD, Ark. — Update: Sherwood police said they arrested Darien Bennett for capital murder on Saturday. He is being held at the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility.

The Sherwood Police Department has requested the help of the public in locating a man who is wanted for murder.

Police want Darien Bennett for his involvement in connection to a homicide that happened on February 1, 2024.

According to reports, Sherwood police found a person dead in a vehicle at the intersection of East Woodruff and Walker Creek Drive at around 7:43 p.m.

The discovery came after authorities dispatched to a reported accident where a vehicle chase happened while fielding reports from 911 callers about possible gunshots near the scene.

After arrival, officers said they found the vehicle with the dead individual inside, secured the scene, and started processing it for evidence.

The victim's identity is being withheld until the next of kin is notified.
