LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Nearly a year ago, 200 puppies were rescued from a puppy mill in Northwest Arkansas. Now, an Arkansas State Representative is working to change the law to end puppy mills for good.

Five days ago, Representative Jim Sorvillo (R-District 32) started an online petition to gain support for new legislation aimed to end puppy mills in Arkansas. The Pulaski County Humane Society took notice and shared a link to the petition on their Facebook page asking people to sign and share the petition.

Now, the petition has over 1,500 signatures and the Humane Society's post about the petition has been shared over 400 times.

In the petition, Sorvillo said he will submit legislation to regulate breeding and end puppy mills. This isn't the first time he's tried to make these changes. In 2015, he introduced similar legislation to regulate the breeding of animals within the state of Arkansas, but that bill was pulled during the session.

On the petition page, Rep. Sorvillo states that the more Arkansans who get involved in this issue, the better chance he has to get legislation passed into law this time around. The petition page has a set goal of at least 5,000 signatures. Representative Sorvillo said on the page that he plans to introduce the new legislation soon.
