FEMA, Gov. Sanders explain how Arkansans can get help after tornado

In a press conference Wednesday, Gov. Sanders, FEMA and other officials discussed Arkansas's recovery process after the tornado and how to obtain aid.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The tornado damage in Central Arkansas is extensive, leaving many people with no idea how to start recovering.

In a press conference Wednesday, Gov. Sanders, Sen. John Boozman, FEMA Region 6 Administrator Tony Robinson, Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr and Pulaski County Judge Barry Hyde explained how Arkansas is moving forward in its recovery process after Friday's EF-3 tornado.

Tony Robinson explained how people can get the help they need and how to navigate the process.

He said the first step is to call your insurance provider. Click here if you need additional help.

Robinson said to be prepared to provide the following information:

  • Driver's license
  • Insurance policy number
  • Social security number
  • Address at the time of the tornado
  • Address where you're currently living

"We'll walk you through that process and the things that we need to be able to provide you the assistance," Robinson said. "The other thing is we will have a close partnership with the Small Business Administration. So you may receive something that says we need you to apply for the Small Business Administration, please do that. They offer some great programs through low-interest loans. They would help you with your home contents."

Gov. Sanders said FEMA is quickly responding to these requests as some Arkansans are already receiving funding.

She also said representatives from state agencies, like the Department of Human Services, will be able to provide people with any documents they lost in the storm at three local FEMA disaster recovery centers.

Addresses for the FEMA disaster recovery centers are below:

  • 315 N Shackleford in Little Rock
  • 1300 Pike Avenue in North Little Rock
  • Old Sears building in Wynne
